What is the role the larger carriers i.e. DHL, FedEx, TNT, etc are going to play in the future of couriers?

I think the role the larger couriers are going to play is more as a haulier instead of a courier. Smaller businesses are going to do the “running around” in their local areas whilst the large DHL’s etc are going to do the bulk transporting from one local area to another. Their time as a “delivery” company has run out.
